Comet golfers competed in the 9 team Wabash Invitational at Honeywell Golf Course Saturday morning. The Comets reeled in a 393 and came in 7th. Logansport won the invite with a 323 followed by Northfield 326, Lewis Cass 339, and Pioneer 343. Max Sommers led the Comets with a 91 and had a birdie on the day. Owen Chapman fired a 97, followed by Luke Graham 99, Gage Thomas 106, and Jace Rentschler 110. Coach Rentschler commented after the round, "The weather was really nice at the golf course today. Conditions were ripe for some low scores today, and we struggle to not have blow-up holes. I mean, these guys can hit the ball with the best of them...literally unbelievable power and accuracy. These guys literally look like they are on the LIV or PGA tour for a couple holes and then we settle back down to the reality of being young kids learning the game. We have to keep developing our fundamentals so that our swings are able to withstand the pressure of the game. We crack too easy right now. We have to be able to self-correct on the fly in golf. You have to be able to make adjustments during the round of what works and what does not. We are young, I'm young, we will keep charging ahead. We have not played our best golf of the season yet, for our school or community, and we are going to give it everything we have to go out with a bang Friday at Sectional and worker harder this week and be more determined than ever to surprise other teams."
