Youthful Football Team Aims to Build

After a historic win in the opening round of sectional play against an undefeated and ranked North White team, the Comet football squad hopes to build on that belief and momentum for the upcoming 24-25 season. The impact of the loss of six seniors from last year's squad will be felt early on, but there is promise among the returning starters and large incoming freshmen class. Assistant coach Brandon Kinser had this to say about the season, "The coaching staff is looking for a number of players to make a big impact this season. Noah Herd should anchor the offensive line being our biggest lineman and our only senior lineman. Jabez Yarber and Gavin Mollenkopf should lead our backfield at their respective positions of QB/FB. We are still a young team this year and are looking for younger athletes to step up and make plays for us this season. We have 36 guys on the roster which is the most we've had in probably 10-12 years. We return 7 starters on both sides of the ball from last year, again, many of whom are sophomores this year. We've set a team goal to be top half in our conference and be above .500. We believe we have the guys in place to be able to do that this year." Caston begins their season on Friday, August 16th in a scrimmage at Northfield High School. The Comets will then get a big early test as they open their season a week from Friday against the Carroll Cougars, a team that defeated the Comets 49-6 in the 2nd round of the sectional last year. Caston will look to see if the offseason work they put in closed the gap.
