The Caston boys golf team competed Saturday in the HNAC tournament and finished 5th overall with a score of 416. Winamac won with a score of 367 followed by Triton and Pioneer at 370 each. Ivan Reyes from Pioneer was medalist of the event with an 84. Max Sommers led the way for the Comets with a 97 and was awarded a honorable mention for his play. Luke Graham shot a 102, Gage Thomas 107, Jace Rentschler 110, and Corbin Smith came in with a 121. Coach Rentschler commented after the match, “I think we were just tired today and could not put the bad shots behind us quick enough and mentally move on. The difference between amateurs and professionals is that amateurs continue to make mistakes when in trouble on the course and professionals recover immediately. We will keep working on that. I don’t think there is one kid on the team that doesn’t feel like we shouldn’t have swept the podium today. I’m excited for Max to continue to lead the team as he’s a great kid. They are all great young men and we will continue to grow and keep getting better. I’m seeing a lot of great golf shots out of the boys, we just need to string it together for 18 holes. We have a couple more meets to keep working to get our games dialed in and become more consistent before we compete in the Sectional in a few weeks and we plan to do just that.” The Comets will compete Tuesday night in a makeup contest against North Miami at Peru Municipal.
