The Comet golfers put it all together Thursday night at Pond View and defeated the Redskins of Knox. The Comet golfers shot a 196, led by 2 birdies by Jace Rentschler. The 196, which matched their best performance of the season, edged out Knox as they came in with a 198. Matthew Goins medaled for the Redskins with a 46. The Comets played about as consistently as a team can play as Max Sommers, Luke Graham, Jace Rentschler, and Gage Thomas all fired 49 each. Corbin Smith rounded out the starting 5 with a 60. Chas Warpenburg(55) had a great showing and Gabe Burkett-Rader(57) also showed major signs of improvement as he shot his personal best of the season. Gage Thomas, who struggled earlier in the week redeemed himself as he brought in the final 49 that sealed the Redskins fate. Coach Rentschler commented after the meet, “It was a great performance and a major confidence booster for so many on the team and had our top players scored their usual numbers, it wouldn’t have even been a close match. Nothing excites me more than seeing the boys succeed and have fun doing it. They are starting to really gel as a team and I’m just proud to be able to hang out with them each day.” Comet golfers will compete Saturday in the HNAC Championship at Round Barn in Rochester at 9am.
