The Comet boys golf team competed in the annual Pioneer Invitational Saturday at Pond View Golf Course. The Comets came away 7th as Lewis Cass(353) took 1st place. Porter Dick, from Carroll, was the medalist with a 76. Local star Micah Rans, from Pioneer, took 2nd with an 84. Comet golfers put together a team score of 406 which brought them in ahead of West Central, Rossville, Knox, and North Judson. Comet golfers were led by Max Sommers(5pars) and Luke Graham(3 pars)each with a 92. Gage Thomas shot a 109, Jace Rentschler a 113, and Corbin Smith came in with a 115. After the match, Coach Rentschler spoke about the tremendous upside for the team. “We have a lot of talent. 4 of the 5 players today did not play on the golf team last season. We are getting better week by week and the team has a rock solid culture. As the players continue to get rounds under their belts, they will keep getting better each week and each match. As the 3 through 5 get more and more comfortable and relaxed, I believe we will shock some teams.” Comet golfers face off Monday at Rochester (Bring your Caddie Night) and back at home Tuesday vs. Knox.
