Comet golfers competed in the Wabash invite Saturday at Honeywell Golf Course. The Comets took 7th place with a team score of 417. Manchester won the event with a 354. Owen Chapman had a 96 which was the Comets lowest score. The rest of the team shot low 100's. Coach Rentschler commented after the match, "Here's the deal, if you saw these boys play Thursday night, I spoke about how awesome they looked and how things really "clicked". It did not click today, but the reality was that the weather got to us a little, but if you double their score from Thursday, we win this invitational with a 350. That's just a fact. This team is that good. They are more than capable of competing with some of the best schools in our area. Golf is played on lush green courses, that's a true statement, but the real game is in between our ears as players. That is what we have to manage better as a team. We need to burn the fundamentals of golf (grip, stance and posture, backswing, and downswing) into our heads so that when we are in tournaments and high stakes/high pressure moments, our swings do not breakdown. That takes a massive amount of dedication, discipline, the "right" practice, and just a pure hunger to want to be the best when you step on the course. We are going to give it everything we have at practice this week leading into Sectional and try to pull off something real special for the school. The lineup is set for the event. We do not know the order, but we know who we are taking and I wouldn't want to take anyone with me besides this team. (Maybe Bryson if we were lucky or Tiger) Owen, Reed, Drew, Brody, Gage will be our guys taking us to this battle. Drew Douglass earned the alternate spot." Win or lose at Sectional, the Comets proved they are a team that can compete with anyone.
