Comet Golfers take 5th place at HNAC

Comet Golfers competed at Round Barn Saturday morning for the HNAC championship. Pioneer won their 2nd consecutive conference championship. The Comets placed 5th out of 8 teams with a 395. Caston was led with a 2nd place overall finish by their star sophomore, Owen Chapman, with a personal best, 79. Chapman was edged out by Ivan Reyes from Pioneer with a 77. Jace Rentschler wrapped up his high school career with a 100. Reed Sommers shot a 106 and Drew Williams carded a 110 to round out the top 4 scores. Coach Rentschler commented after the round, "I've played golf for 40 years and I know how hard it is for someone to break 80(2-5% of all players break 80 consistently). It is an elite club that can do that and to see Owen do that on such a challenging course is nothing less than spectacular. He was dialed in today! I've known that he is more than capable of going low, so being a part of that, and seeing the smile on his face afterwards when he accomplished such a great podium finish, was awesome for myself and the rest of the team. He was happier than a butcher's dog! I'm very excited for the rest of the season as we head to into the Sectional. We still have not peaked, Caston has some guys that could drop quite a few strokes, and I really believe we can shave at least 30 strokes off our team score for sectional. I was excited for Jace to wrap up a great career at Caston and see him go on to the next chapter in his life. He will be successful at whatever he touches in life." Comets will face off against Winamac on Thursday at Pond View before starting preparations for the Logansport Sectional.
