Caston Jr-Sr High School

The Caston junior high softball team finished their season on Friday night with an undefeated record. They took down a quality Logansport team to end the year a perfect 14-0-1. While a few games ended with lopsided scores, there were some tight games where the Lady Comets either had to come from behind or battle until the end. They defeated North Miami (3-0), rival Rochester (4-1), and a talented Logansport squad (7-5). They tied Whitko 5-5 in the first game of the season. Coach Alanie Hipsher had this to say on the season's goals: "When we started the year we had a few games on our radar that we knew would be tough, especially towards the end. We hadn't been able to quite overcome them the last two years, but we were able to string together some hits when needed and played great defense behind our pitchers." She continued, "Our last two games against Rochester and Logansport tested our mental game. To be able to face great opposing pitchers and have tough at bats, but then grab our gloves and get to work defensively, is something we've preached about all year. The girls finished the season playing our best softball for each other, and that's all we could ask for." The Comets will lose four key 8th graders (Annie Ault, Kayley Middleton, Ella Monical, and Jillian Rentschler) from this team who will provide immediate depth to the Coach Burks' Varsity squad, but a core nucleus will return next season to build on this year's successes.
