Comet Golfers Start 2026 Season with Tough Loss

By BOYS GOLF | Apr 17, 2026 9:33 PM

Comet golfers(192) traveled to Pine View Golf Course in Monticello and faced off in a 3-way meet against Tri-County(187)and Frontier(177) Friday afternoon. Comets came in with a disappointing finish despite Owen Chapman shooting his best career 9-hole round.(39) Chapman was on fire, but it was not enough to get them past the Falcons or Cavaliers. Coach Foxworth commented we at least need bogey golf out of the rest of the team. Coach Rentschler had very high expectations for the round, thinking they would blow out the other two teams, but he believed first round of the year jitters and pressure got to some of the guys. Coach was so proud of Owen. "For a 2nd year player to fire a 39 for Caston is something we haven't seen in years. I'm so proud of him. The future will be so bright as we get the team firing on all cylinders." Gage Thomas started the 2026 season with a respectable score.(47) Reed Sommers made his first career Varsity start and fired a 51. Comets will square off Saturday at Pond View at 9am for the Caston 11 team Invitational where they look to rebound and get back on track.
